About the Artist
Ryan Torano is a multi-medium artist focusing on creating a bold synthesis of material and subject. The work embodies the dynamic relationship of the paradoxes that dwell below the surfaces of our everyday lives. The sculptures bridge the certainty of concrete with the fluid breath of fabric, and his charcoal paintings depict the work of masters in a new composition to relay a symbolic truth hidden in its form. He has worked in the realm of both literature and fashion by self-publishing a novella and designing a clothing line.
Ryan’s inspiration is derived from the peaks of western culture and the wisdom embedded in its stories. From the narrative structure and archetypes embedded in Christianity to the humanization of the world and its relationships embedded within Greek mythology, all of these inform his work. Yet, a substantial amount of the creation process is instinctual and informed by the unconscious, as symbols take shape naturally and cannot be consciously constructed.
The mission of Ryan’s work is to create a symbolic framework for the modern man to cultivate self-knowledge and saturate his life with meaning.
